You’ve got your tree home, let’s make sure it stays as healthy as can be throughout the season.
Here’s some tips to keep your tree fresh, fragrant and green:
- Cut about an inch off the end of the trunk. This opens the veins that delivers water to the branches. You want to do this within a few hours before putting your tree in the stand, as the end can glaze over and it won’t take up as much water. We’ll do that for you at the lot!
- Add water immediately after you get your tree in the stand. It will start absorbing about a gallon of water a day for the first few days.
- Keep your tree in a cool location – or at least not on top of a heater.
- Some people add aspirin or Miracle Grow to the water. The jury’s out on that one.
- If your tree stops absorbing water, you may have to break up some hard sap deposits. Add some hot water to the stand – not boiling water. It will help break up the deposit residue.
